Always psyched to share images from shows I shoot. This one is extra special as a lot of my friends were there. I hope you guys all enjoyed the show!
Broken Bells is an American indie rock band composed of artist-producer Brian Burton (better known as Danger Mouse) and James Mercer, the lead vocalist and guitarist for the indie rock band The Shins.
Iron City Bham was a packed up venue filled with excitement. As soon as the band appeared on the 60s sci-fi stage, everyone was ready to take off for a real space oddity. A video running in the background completes the whole picture.
It’s all about space and time. Though you’re not physically travelling, everything is intended to make your mind go high. Real high.
Burton plucked away at his bass and even took a few turns playing drums, always totally lost in the music. He never spoke to the audience and seemed content to let Mercer command the stage.
Dressed more like a professor rather than the rock star he really is, Mercer's control, and timing was very measured.
Dancing lights. Celestial images projecting behind the musicians. His lyrics sharp as a dagger piercing through my musical soul.
“I’ve been all around the world but I’ve got nowhere to go,” he sang in ”Leave It Alone.”
By the time the they were playing ”October,” a hit from their first album, Broken Bells had proved they're not simply measured musicians with good track records, they're heavy hitters with a soft touch.
Check out the video below. It's my favorite track from Broken Bells
